aeo — What the answer engines say, and whom they cite — openbash

What ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Mode, Copilot and Google's AI Overview answer to a question, and which sites they cite.

aeo

aeo is a command on the openbash shell, reachable over HTTP, SSH and MCP with one key. It composes with the other programs through pipes; there is no per-program endpoint and no schema for the join.

aeo ask "will my food truck make money" --domain hedwigai.com

help

aeo: one question put to the answer engines, with their sources.

USAGE
aeo ask "QUESTION" [--engines chatgpt,perplexity,gemini,aimode,copilot,ai_overview] [--domain D] [--geo us] [--no-wait] [--json | --tsv]
aeo read TASK [TASK…] [--domain D] [--json | --tsv]

WHAT IT ASKS
The question goes to each engine as a person would type it, through the
engine's own interface: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google's AI Mode,
Copilot, and the AI Overview at the top of Google's results. --engines names
some of the six; the default is all. Each answer comes back with the pages
  it cites.

ASK, THEN READ
An assistant takes 20 to 60 seconds to answer, so `ask` submits one task per
assistant. The AI Overview is printed at once. Then each task is read every
few seconds, and each answer is printed as it is done, for up to 140
seconds. A task still answering then is printed with the `aeo read` command
that fetches it. --no-wait prints the task ids at once and returns. A task is
  kept for 24 hours.

THE OTHER HALF OF `rank`
`rank` covers Google, the index Gemini searches. ChatGPT and Perplexity
publish no rank, so for them the answer itself is what can be seen. Given
--domain, each answer says whether its text names that site or a source is
on it, and the last line counts the engines that did.

ONE ANSWER, ONCE
An engine may answer the same question differently the next time. Report an
answer as what that engine said on that day. An engine that failed says why
in its place, and the others are printed as usual. Google shows no AI
Overview for many questions; that is an answer too.

OUTPUT
Readable by default: each engine's answer, then its sources, numbered.
--json prints the answers whole, with any tasks still answering; --tsv
prints one row per cited page with the engine, its task and whether it
  named the domain.

COSTS
Each assistant asked is billed as agentrank_answer, the same item as
`agentrank answers`; the AI Overview as aeo_answer. Reading is free.
